Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai visited the Macao International Technology Industry Centre on October 23. He said the SAR Government was committed to creating platforms and a supportive environment for businesses, advancing local high-tech industries and enabling technology to lead development. By nurturing new growth industries, it aims to diversify the economy and broaden employment and development opportunities for residents.
Accompanied by Secretary for Economy and Finance Wu Huixian, Sam toured the centre that morning. Resident companies presented their business development and demonstrated advanced technologies. Centre Director Yu Chengbin briefed him on company occupancy and operating results. He also spoke with several company representatives about young entrepreneurs' achievements and applications of frontier technologies.
In discussions with businesses, Sam said the centre brings together innovation resources and prepares a pipeline of promising enterprises for the technology park. It is helping form an initial industrial cluster and laying the foundation for high-quality technology development and the orderly construction of the park. The SAR Government is also attracting businesses and investment, aiming to use leading companies to drive local industrial upgrading and build a complete technology ecosystem that supports Macao's economic diversification.
In his concluding remarks, the Chief Executive praised the entrepreneurs' pioneering spirit and pledged full government support for companies aligned with industrial priorities. To address talent shortages, the government is actively attracting professionals through its talent recruitment program. It will continue building development platforms, with the expectation that entrepreneurs and incoming professionals will contribute their strengths to Macao's society and industries while building successful businesses and fulfilling lives.
Resident company representatives said Macao's advantage lies in one country, two systems. With the centre's support, they hope to develop and commercialize products and expand into Hengqin, the Greater Bay Area, Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking countries, and other global markets. They also emphasized talent as a core resource for high-tech development and expressed interest in closer cooperation with Macao's universities to train local professionals and link industry and talent development through research–industry collaboration.
Other officials accompanying the visit included Chief of the Chief Executive's Office Chen Ge and Economic and Technological Development Bureau Director Qiu Runhua.
Inaugurated in June this year, the Macao International Technology Industry Centre is a pilot project for Macao's technology research and development industrial park. The first 19 companies approved to move in cover digital technology, integrated circuits, biomedicine, aerospace technology and other technology fields.
